Saunas
-
Akaea uses infrared sauna technology. Our sauna experience is designed to create a warm, immersive environment for relaxation and recovery, without the intense heat of a traditional sauna.
-
Yes. Our saunas incorporate red light therapy as part of the Akaea experience.
-
Your contrast therapy booking is 60 minutes in total. You are free to move between the sauna and cold plunge during your session at your own pace. We recommend listening to your body rather than trying to stay in the sauna for a set amount of time.
-
If you're new to sauna, start gently and see how your body responds. A good starting point is a shorter period in the sauna before taking a break and cooling down. There is no need to push yourself or stay in longer than feels comfortable.
-
Absolutely. Contrast therapy can feel intense at first, particularly the cold plunge. If you're new to sauna or cold exposure, start slowly and focus on becoming comfortable with the experience rather than trying to achieve the longest or coldest session.
-
This depends on your goals and how your body responds to heat. For general wellness and maintenance, many guests enjoy infrared sauna once a week. If you're looking to make sauna a more regular part of your wellness routine, you may choose to use it 2 to 3 times per week.
Start gradually, stay hydrated and listen to your body. If you have any health concerns or are unsure whether sauna is suitable for you, we recommend speaking with your healthcare professional before use.
-
Guests use infrared sauna as part of their wellness routines for relaxation, unwinding, warmth and recovery.
-
No. You can enter the sauna without showering first. A shower is required before entering the cold plunge.
-
The rooms are private, so wear whatever makes you comfortable. We recommend minimal clothing. We line each sauna with a bathmat prior to each booking.
-
No. Sauna and heat exposure are not recommended during pregnancy at Akaea.
If you are pregnant, please speak with your healthcare provider about which wellness treatments are appropriate for you. Medical guidance advises avoiding sauna use during pregnancy because of the potential risks associated with increased core body temperature.
-
Sauna and heat exposure are not suitable for everyone.
If you have a medical condition, are taking medication, are pregnant, or are unsure whether sauna is appropriate for you, please speak with your healthcare professional before booking.
If you feel dizzy, faint, nauseous or unwell during your session, leave the sauna immediately and notify a member of the Akaea team.
-
A traditional sauna heats the surrounding air to create a hot environment.
An infrared sauna uses infrared energy to warm the body more directly and generally operates at a lower ambient temperature.
The experience is different, but both are designed around heat and relaxation.
Cold Plunge & Contrast Therapy
-
Contrast therapy is the practice of alternating between heat and cold. At Akaea, this means moving between the infrared sauna and cold plunge within your private session. You control the pace of your experience and can choose how many rounds you complete.
-
The cold plunge is maintained at a deliberately cold temperature for contrast therapy. The exact temperature may vary between 8 to 6 degrees.
-
If you’re new to cold exposure, start with a short immersion and gradually build your tolerance over time. A few minutes is more than enough for many people.
-
There is no required number of rounds. You may choose to alternate between the sauna and cold plunge throughout your 60 minute booking. If you're new to contrast therapy, start with fewer rounds and shorter exposures.
We recommend: 15 to 20 min sauna → shower → 1 to 5 min ice bath → dry off → 15 to 20 min sauna → repeat
-
Yes. A shower is required before entering the cold plunge.
-
You should shower before your entry into the cold plunge.
-
No. The cold plunge is completely optional. You can spend your session enjoying the sauna, or use the sauna and cold plunge in whatever combination feels comfortable for you.
-
Yes. If your booking is for a contrast therapy room, you can choose how you use your private space.
If you don't feel comfortable with the cold plunge, there is absolutely no need to force it.
-
Yes, but start slowly.
The transition between heat and cold can be intense, particularly if you're new to cold exposure.
Our recommendation is to begin with shorter periods and gradually discover what feels comfortable for your body.
-

If you’re pregnant, please speak with your healthcare provider about appropriate wellness treatments.
